    6.9 The Workflow Across Disciplines

The five-step workflow transfers across every engineering domain. The physical system changes; the governing equations change; the structure does not.

How the five-step engineering workflow applies across different engineering domains.
Domain Define includes Model uses Interpret checks
Structural (cable, beam) Mass, geometry, angle Equilibrium, FBD Magnitude, safety factor
Circuit analysis Voltage, resistance, current Ohm's law, Kirchhoff's Power rating, margin
Spreadsheet model Parameter table Algebraic formula in cells Graph shape, sensitivity
CAD/geometry Dimensions, material Volume / mass formulas Physical plausibility
    🔗 Connection

Every quantitative chapter in this book uses the Define → Model → Analyze → Interpret → Communicate format for worked examples. When you see a Worked Example callout in Chapters 8, 10, 11, or 12, the five steps will be labeled explicitly. Developing fluency now means the technical content in those chapters can be absorbed more quickly — the structure will be familiar, and the only new thing will be the domain.
