    About the Author

    Samuel Bechara, PhD

    Dr. Bechara is not your average engineering professor. He's a rebel with a cause - to revolutionize the way engineering is taught. After earning his B.S. in Bioengineering from Washington State University in 2008 and his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Colorado State University in 2012, Dr. Bechara hit the ground running.

    He founded Hyperion Labs, a failed technology company, and even worked as an AP Physics high school physics teacher and FIRST robotics coach in Tacoma, Washington. But that's not all. Dr. Bechara then went on to become the Assistant Chair and Lecturer in the Biomedical Engineering Department of the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University joint department. Currently, Dr. Bechara has is dream job of teaching Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering students at Colorado State University.

    Dr. Bechara's passion lies in teaching, especially working with undergraduate students. He's interested in engineering education research and effective teaching methods, and he loves nothing more than sharing his knowledge with eager young minds. With Dr. Bechara at the helm, the future of engineering education looks bright.

    Isabella Kaze

    Isabella Kaze is a dual-degree student in Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University. She is passionate about using her skills and knowledge to help people. This passion has led her to contribute to the development of Introduction to Engineering by writing interactive parts of the textbook, and to tutor students in introductory engineering classes as well as math classes such as Calculus and Differential Equations.

    Isabella's commitment to volunteerism and her passion for helping others led her to study abroad in Ecuador with the not-for-profit Range of Motion Project. During her time there, she helped build prosthetics for people who could not afford them. Her exceptional commitment to volunteerism earned her the Rising Star Award, an honor given to the one student who excels in commitment to the School of Biomedical Engineering.

    As part of the Biomaterial Research and Engineering Lab at CSU, Isabella has gained valuable experience in her field of interest by studying bone regeneration. She has a talent for breaking down complex topics into understandable pieces, a skill that has helped her both as a student and a tutor. Writing interactive assignments for Introduction to Engineering has allowed her to apply this skill to help others better understand fundamental engineering concepts.

    Isabella is proud of her accomplishments and is excited to see how Introduction to Engineering will help students in their engineering studies. She plans to continue her education in graduate school and hopes to use her skills to make a positive impact in her field, ultimately helping to improve the lives of people in need.

     

    Dylan Scheller

    Dylan Scheller is a dedicated mechanical engineering student at Colorado State University, known for his passion for innovation and problem-solving. Throughout his undergraduate studies, he has excelled in various technical courses, ranging from thermodynamics and fluid mechanics to materials science and mechatronics. His dedication to his studies and keen problem-solving skills has earned recognition from his professors.

    In addition to his academic pursuits, Dylan has actively sought opportunities to apply his engineering knowledge in real-world scenarios. He eagerly engages in extracurricular activities that allowed him to gain practical experience and refine his skills. This hands-on approach has helped him develop a holistic understanding of engineering principles and their practical applications.

    Driven by a desire to make a positive impact on society, Dylan has taken his passion for engineering beyond the classroom and helped create a student organization at Colorado State University called STEM for Kids. This outreach organization aims to encourage middle school students to get involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through engaging and hands-on activities. Dylan's dedication and leadership played a pivotal role in establishing this organization, which provides young students with opportunities to explore the exciting world of STEM and ignite their curiosity for scientific inquiry.

    With a profound dedication to his field, a commitment to community outreach, and a determination to push the boundaries of what is possible, Dylan Scheller is poised to become a leading mechanical engineer. As he continues to grow and evolve in his academic journey, he looks forward to applying his skills and knowledge to create innovative solutions that positively impact the world, while inspiring future generations.
