Topic 05. Moment

( \newcommand{\kernel}{\mathrm{null}\,}\)

Topic 05 covers: 1) Describing a moment; 2) Determining the moment about a point in 2D and 3D; 3) Calculating the magnitude and direction of the resultant moment about a point in 2D and 3D.

Understanding moments is crucial for ensuring the equilibrium of a body in Statics analysis, as it allows for the inclusion of rotational effects alongside forces.

At the end of this chapter, an animation is provided to demonstrate how to determine the direction of a moment using the right-hand rule. Additionally, extra sheets are provided to review the fundamental concepts required for this topic: 1) Vector Cross Product; 2) Determinant of Matrix.
