By the end of this chapter you should be able to:
- Describe what MATLAB is and explain why it is useful in science and engineering.
- Identify the major areas of the MATLAB graphical user interface, including the Command Window, Workspace, Current Folder, and Command History.
- Use MATLAB interactively from the Command Window for basic calculations.
- Create variables using assignment statements and choose meaningful variable names.
- Use who, whos, clear, clc, help, doc, demo, and lookfor to work more efficiently in MATLAB.
- Explain the difference between numeric, character, string, and logical data types.
- Use MATLAB constants such as pi, i, j, Inf, and NaN.
- Write and evaluate numeric expressions using MATLAB operators and precedence rules.
- Use relational and logical operators to create true/false expressions.
- Recognize the difference between & and &&, and between | and ||.
